Dos and Don’ts for Cleaning Your Mobile Phone

Our mobile phones go with us everywhere.  And that means that just about everything we touch, touches our phone.  Unfortunately, your cell phone is host to all sorts of bacteria and germs.  Cleaning your mobile phone is always important, even more so now during the COVID-19 pandemic.  It’s time to make cleaning of our mobile phones an investment in our daily personal healthcare.

Ready to get started?  Here are some important Dos and Don’ts for cleaning your cell phone:

DO invest in a screen protector.  Although this does not keep your device safe from germs, it decreases the chances of damaging your screen with a harsh cleaning product.

Experts agree – DO choose Clorox or Lysol wipes to keep your phone clean and safe.  Apple and Samsung agree – DO NOT use a cleaning product with higher than 70% alcohol and DO NOT use bleach.

DO use wipes.  DO NOT spray a cleaner directly on your phone.  AT&T suggests that if you don’t have prepared wipes available, simply spray your cleaner of choice onto a lint-free soft cloth and wipe your phone while it is off and ideally also powered down.  Paper towels are considered too abrasive for mobile phone screen cleaning.

DO NOT forget the back of your phone!  Clean all surfaces, not just the screen.

Always remember, proper hand washing and regular cleaning of all frequently touched objects (phones, doorknobs, your car door handle, wallets, credit cards and surfaces in the home) are important steps for staying healthy.  Our current focused thinking on cleanliness in our day-to-day lives is certainly a silver lining of these times that we can carry forward into the future. 260039-1600x1030-disinfect-your-cell-phone.jpg
